Where are the notes?

Learning to the play the piano is a great thing to do and it really is NEVER too late to learn. In fact, adults often have the upper hand and you should really try to use it to your advantage. How? Logic and dexterity.

One of the many, many reasons that the piano has been so popular to play for so long is that it is logical and the same (relatively) anywhere you go. So, how do you start? With the notes.

As you can above, each note (from the possible range ABCDEFG) corresponds to a specific key on the piano- whether it’s black or white. However, there is a difference you can notice between the white and black keys straight away and the addition of ‘accidentals’ help determine whether the key you should play is black or not. (shown below).

Whether we play sharps or flats is really dependent on the ‘key signature’ at the beginning of the piece of music or a particular phrase. I have covered this in previous lessons, so go take a look!
